SMOOTHDAWOLF

From Poetry to Playlists His Journey to Becoming an Artist:

For SMOOTHDAWOLF, music didn’t start in a studio, it started with a notebook. As a kid, his mom encouraged him to write out his feelings instead of bottling them up. That advice became a lifeline, turning childhood poetry into lyrical expression, and eventually into full-fledged songs. After high school, he sat down to take music seriously and from that moment on, he knew this was his path.

Getting into the industry was more of an emotional battle than a logistical one. He was More of him trying to overcome the fear of starting and finding his own sound. But instead of letting the fear consume him, he used it to fuel his originality. Staying true to himself became the one rule he never broke.

Artists like Mac Miller and Outcast lit the initial spark, but a moment on stage turned that spark into fire. He had forgotten the lyrics to his set mid-performance and had to cut it short, something that might’ve crushed a lesser artist. But instead, multiple people came up afterward to tell him how different his music sounded. That moment gave him the clarity to keep pushing forward: he had something unique to offer.

His inspiration usually comes from raw emotion — the kind that hits when you’re just living life. Good days, bad days, growth, feeling empty or completely full all of it finds its way into his music. Though he doesn’t follow a strict creative routine, he does prioritize showing up for himself every day, musically and personally.

His sound has evolved too. Where he used to play it safe, now he creates with boldness. If he likes the way something sounds, he puts it out regardless of trends or opinions. To him, music is about being true to yourself, and showing love to the world, even when the world feels heavy.

Still, staying consistent isn’t always easy. There are days when the studio feels far away, and writing doesn’t come naturally. But he keeps going even when it’s tough. While he’s not rushing into collaborations yet, he sees the value in building his own voice and image before merging it with others. When the time comes, he dreams of working with artists from TDE or DreamVille, and more.

He’s currently working on a new project set to release in October, and his long-term vision includes bigger stages, viral moments, and more visibility. A fun fact? Despite his confident vibe, he’s extremely open to criticism, something most artists struggle with. Outside of the studio, he’s hiking, playing basketball, or just living life so he always has something real to write about.

His message is simple but powerful: ‘keep going no matter what, don’t let anything or anybody stop you from doing something that you love’. His advice for other artists? A lot of times are going to be harder than easier and it’s a hard time that will make you feel so much better so you have to keep pushing.
